This series of seven paintings began in the aftermath of my cancer surgery and unfolded as I entered remission and beyond. They were painted over a period of 14 months in the latter half of 2024 through to the summer of 2025. 

I have spent 30 years as an architect - in charge of the pen.  I worked long hours often into the night, whilst my children slept, earning my living from the placement of lines.  Cancer took the pen from my hand.  The black lines the surgeon drew across my skin plotted where he would cut, carve and remove- brutal setting out which I could not oversee.

Each painting, hung chronologically, charts the path of fear and pain towards a rediscovery of joy and love.   Whilst they map a deeply personal process, they speak more broadly of the universal experience of vulnerability, fear and survival.   Seen together, they tell a story of transformation.

At the heart of the exhibition are two paintings, The Mother and Us Three.  These serve as meditations on love, family and the bonds that give us strength.
