Annabel Brown is an artist, architect and Pilates instructor whose work explores the emotional character of landscape and place.
Drawing and painting have been lifelong practices. Alongside her artistic work, Annabel has spent over thirty years as a chartered architect and has taught Pilates for many years. These disciplines have fostered a deep understanding of structure, movement, rhythm and observation, informing a painting practice that seeks to capture not simply how a place appears, but how it feels.
Working across oils, acrylics, pastels and drawing media, her paintings are inspired by marshlands, woodlands, coastlines and urban environments. She is drawn to places shaped by time, weather and human presence, finding beauty in shifting light, layered textures and the traces people leave behind.
Her work often moves between representation and abstraction, using gesture, colour and mark-making to evoke atmosphere, memory and emotion. The physical act of painting remains central to her practice; a process of movement, exploration and discovery that she considers one of the most direct and authentic expressions of being alive.
